Why St. Petersburg, Florida might be annoying:

Many people assume it is the equivalent to Tampa as what Anaheim is to Los Angeles.
Many residents often refer to it as 'St. Pete' instead of the proper name.
They built the Florida Suncoast Dome (since renamed Tropicana Field) with the hopes of luring a Major League Baseball franchise to the city.
When the National League Board of Governors denied the proposed sale and relocation of the San Francisco Giants to the city, the venue was practically considered a lemon.
When the city finally received an expansion franchise in the form of the Tampa Bay Rays, most residents refused to watch games due to the venue's sterile atmosphere along with the team's reputation as a laughingstock franchise as a result of the comical ownership.
The city received negative publicity after a riot occurred following the death of 18 year old Tyrone Lewis, who was shot and killed by police during a routine traffic stop (1996).
    They have extremely hot summers.

Why St. Petersburg, Florida might not be annoying:

It is named after St. Petersburg, Russia.
Due to its warm climate year round, it is considered a popular destination for tourists.
It is home to various historical museums.
It is home to both the St. Petersburg Pier and the world's largest waterfront park systems.
Despite its historical reputation as being a destination city for retirees, in recent years it has become a destination city for the younger demographic.
It hosted games 1 and 2 of the 2008 World Series.
In addition to its waterfront park attractions, it is home to numerous beaches.
The NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning played at the Suncoast Dome for three seasons while their arena in downtown Tampa was under construction.
Unlike many residents of twin cities, they don't have issues with people referring to their city as St. Petersburg-Tampa.
