The Resume

    (April 1906-March 25, 1975)
    Born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Birth name was Faisal ibn Abdul Aziz Al Saud
Third King of Saudi Arabia (November 2, 1964-March 25, 1975)
Named 'Time Magazine Person of the Year' (1974)
Assassinated by his half-brother's son, Faisal bin Musa'id, at age 68

Why he might be annoying:

He was an anti-Zionist who felt Israelis should never have been given land in Palestine.
    He was married several times.
With backing of family members and government officials, he forcibly took control of Saudi Arabia from his elder brother, King Saud, who was exiled to Greece (1964).
In 1964, he declared all Saudi princes must school their children inside the country, yet allowed his own kids to study at universities in the U.S.
Siding with Anwar Sadat during the Yom Kippur (Fourth Arab-Israeli) War, he withdrew Saudi oil from world markets, quadrupling the price of oil and initiating the 1973 energy crisis.
Conspiracy theorists claim this action was responsible for his assassination by people connected with Western oil interests.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was anti-Communist.
Despite conflicts with Israel, he strengthened ties with the U.S.
He took his country's precarious financial situation and turned it around, helping to modernize Saudi Arabia.
Among his achievements were rights for women seeking education, pension and social insurance programs for workers, establishing a solid infrastructure, building the country's first TV station and formally abolishing slavery.
His mentally unbalanced nephew shot him three times in the face, and his last words were of forgiveness for his assassin (who months later was publicly beheaded for regicide).
Pakistan, a strong ally of his, renamed a main highway, an air force base and a suburb close to Karachi Airport after him.
After his death, his family established the King Faisal Foundation, one of the largest philanthropic organizations in the world.
