Just like any other TV actor, he thought he could sing, but his singing career fizzled quickly.
He and his wife, Lorrie, appeared in the failed pilot, 'Anson and Lorrie.'

Why he might not be annoying:

Although he is a director, one might think he would be embarrassed by his role as the goofy Potsie on 'Happy Days,' but he isn't.
His 'Happy Days' castmate, Ron Howard, became a director and encouraged him to direct.
He also mentions that when he was in Africa, a tribal person, who did not speak any English, recognized him as Potsie.
He met his wife, Lorri Mahaffey (she played his girlfriend), on 'Happy Days.'
He is a relative of Dr. Heimlich (of the Heimlich Maneuver).
