    Born in Dominican Republic
    Patria Mercedes Mirabal (February 27, 1924-November 25, 1960)
    Maria Argentina Minerva Mirabal (March 12, 1926-November 25, 1960)
    Antonia Maria Teresa Mirabal (October 15, 1936-November 25, 1960)
    Arrested, tortured, and killed at the behest of Rafael Trujillo
    Subject of the book and film 'In the Time of the Butterflies'

Why they might be annoying:

    They grew up rich.
    All three studied law.
    The siblings became politcally involved only after Trujillo stole their family fortune.
    Their activism led to their husbands' being jailed.

Why they might not be annoying:

    After visiting their detained spouses, Trujillo's henchmen intercepted the ladies.
    The women were taken to a sugarcane field and assassinated one by one.
    The Dominican province, Hermanas Mirabal, was renamed in their honor (2007).
    In 1999, November 25th was declared the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women by the United Nations.
    The lone surviving sister, Dede, continued the fight against political corruption.
