Why he might be annoying:

He changed his name to Sulieman Saud after converting to Islam.
During the lean years after leaving Coltrane, he considered applying for a license to drive a New York City taxicab.
Inevitably, he titled an album ‘The Real McCoy’ (1967).

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was left-handed.
In addition to piano, he played percussion, flute, and koto (a Japanese stringed instrument).
He was named a NEA Jazz Master (2002).
Coltrane declared, ‘McCoy has taste. He can take anything, no matter how weird, and make it sound beautiful.’
