Why he might be annoying:

    He dropped out of high school.
    He joined a British anti-fascist movement after World War II where he got into numerous scuffles, using brass knuckles, blackjacks and razors.
    For this he was arrested a few times and once jailed briefly.
    He was Farrow's hair stylist who was paid $5,000 to chop off most of her hair for her role in 'Rosemary's Baby (1968).'
    The gay tag line for his hair care product commercials was 'Ooh, La, La, Sassoon!'
    He sued Proctor & Gamble, who distributes his products in the U.S., for allowing his brand name to become nothing more than 'a discount product.'
    He has been married 4 times.
    He says he owes his fitness to regular doses of yoga and Viagra.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He grew up in poverty.
    When his father abandoned the family he spent six years in a Jewish orphanage in London.
    He became a pioneer of hair styling in the '60s with his innovative geometric cuts, wash-and-wear perms, and the 'bob cut,' all glamorous yet low-maintenance.
    He fought for the Israeli army as a volunteer during its battle for independence, causing many Arab people to boycott his products.
    The Holocaust deeply affected him and vowed to do whatever he could to keep the memory of its victims alive, authoring several books.
    In 1982, he established the Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Anti-semitism and Xenophobia in Jerusalem.
    He believes 'violence for its own sake is nonsense, but in defence of one's children and one's elders is a necessity.'
    His 33-year-old daughter Catya died of an ecstasy overdose at a New Year's Eve party (January 1, 2002).
    He is a self-made multi-millionaire.
