Why he might be annoying:

He wrote and co-produced a grade-Z sci-fi film, 'The Astro-Zombies (1968).'
He left M*A*S*H in the middle of its successful run.
He said, 'If I had known the show was going to run that long, I probably would have kept my mouth shut and stayed put.'
He turned down the lead in the series 'Trapper John, MD' because he did not want to be typecast as a doctor, but then signed up to play a doctor in 'House Calls.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He left 'M*A*S*H' as it became clear that his character, who was supposed to be equal in importance to Alan Alda's Hawkeye Pierce, was being relegated to second banana status.
The producers of 'M*A*S*H' tried to sue for breach of contract, but he had never signed a contract because he objected to the inclusion of a morals clause.
Despite his acrimonious departure, he participated in reunion shows such as 'Memories of M*A*S*H' (1992) and 'M*A*S*H 30th Anniversary Reunion (2002).'
He became a successful investor and manages the affairs of actors Peter Falk and James Caan.
