    Their name is derived from a Cree Indian word 'probably' meaning 'muddy water.'
    Their people are called 'Winnipeggers.'

    It was the host of the Red River Rebellion, which was a Canadian civil war (1869-70).
    It experienced an economic drought after WW I, which lead to the 'Winnipeg General Strike.' After the police arrested 10 people, the mob, which consisted of over 30,000, began making their way to Main Street, in downtown Winnipeg. When they arrived, they set a streetcar on fire. The police would try to gain order of the protest by using baseball bats against the crowd, which would only force the crowd to begin defending themselves by throwing objects, such as stones, at them. The police would retaliate with guns, which would result in the death of two people and dozens of minor and major injuries.
    The Canadian government was seen as being very irresponsible during the whole affair.
    Officially, the strike lasted six weeks (May 15, 1919-June 28, 1919).
    'Winnipeggers' have made Winnipeg the unofficial 'Slurpee Capital of the World.' They consume an average of 4,500 7-11 Slurpees a year.
    Pro wrestlers 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper and Chris Jericho was raised here.
    Is nickname was 'The Other Chicago.'
    It is the murder capital of Canada.
