The Resume

    (April 16, 1761-February 26, 1839)
Born in Fredericksburg (now Ludingtonville), New York
Daughter of militia captain Henry Ludington
Rode 40 miles through Putnam County, New York, to summon the militia to assemble for a defense of Danbury, Connecticut (April 26, 1777)

Why she might be annoying:

Despite her effort, the militia arrived too late to prevent the British from burning Danbury.
She is not as well remebered as Paul Revere.
Her name is spelled 'Sibbell' on her tombstone.

Why she might not be annoying:

She rode twice as far as Revere, over poorly marked trails and in the rain.
During the ride, she fended off a highwayman using her father's musket.
Although too late to save Danbury, the militia was able to join the force that harassed the British during their retreat to Long Island Sound.
She was congratulated on her heroism by General George Washington.
