The Resume

    (1886-1938)
    Born in London, United Kingdom
Protestant missionary ministering to the Lisu people in southwest China
Invented the Fraser alphabet for the Lisu language (c. 1915)
Died of cerebral malaria in Baoshan, Yunnan

Why he might be annoying:

His missionary work clashed with his career plans to become an engineer.
He suffered bouts of depression during his missionary work.
Despite his significant missionary work, including the invention of an alphabet, he remained largely unknown to many people.

Why he might not be annoying:

He chose to live a humble life in near-obscurity rather than a comfortable one.
He was a pious man who often prayed to God for guidance.
He developed a script that enabled a marginalized tribal ethnic group to read and write.
He didn’t pay local preachers to go out or start churches because he wanted the Lisu to be self-supporting, which helped them withstand the Japanese occupation and Communist persecution during the Cultural Revolution.
