Why he might be annoying:

    He opposed the war to topple Saddam Hussein.
    Many of his measures immediately after Anwar Sadat's assassination were rather harsh.
    He has been president of Egypt for 22 years, which raises concerns about the validity of elections.
    Demands for him to step down led to several violent demonstrations throughout Egypt (January-February 2011).

Why he might not be annoying:

    During the assassination attempt on Anwar Sadat, Mubarak was shot in the hand.
    He kept Egypt stable during political conflict between Islamic fundamentalists and secularists.
    He was a skilled mediator and brokered a peace treaty with Israel (1979).
    He tries to fight extremist groups in Egypt.
    Gunmen fired on his motorcade in Ethiopia, but he survived (1995).
    He has been awarded numerous military decorations from Egypt and 35 other countries.
