Born in Coventry, England, United Kingdom
Professor of cybernetics at Reading University, England
As part of 'Project Cyborg' had a RFID transmitter implanted under his skin (May 24, 1988)
Had an array of 100 electrodes interfaced directly with his nervous system (March 14, 2002)
Was able to use the implants to control a robotic arm via the internet
Wrote 'QI: The Quest for Intelligence' (2001), 'I, Cyborg' (2004) and 'Artificial Intelligence: The Basics' (2011)

Why he might be annoying:

He left school at 16 to work for British telecom.
His opinion on the current state of artificial intelligence: 'Our robots have roughly the equivalent of 50 to 100 brain cells. That means they are about as intelligent as a slug or a snail or a Manchester United supporter.'
The RFID transmitter he had implanted let him control doors, lights, heaters and other computer-controlled devices. Seems like he could have gotten the same results without surgery by wiring the devices to a Clapper.
He said, 'There is no way I want to stay a mere human.'
He brought us all one day closer to the Terminators taking over the world.

Why he might not be annoying:

He went back to school and earned a PhD.
He participates in discussions of the ethical implications of artificial intelligence.
He said, 'Having a magnet implanted is not particularly invasive. Not anywhere near having rings in your noses or eyebrows.'
He is part of the team developing the next generation of deep brain stimulation for Parkinsons disease, intended to detect incipient tremors and stop them before they start.
He was cited by Parliament for attracting students to science (2005).
