    Beliefs include observing the Sabbath on Saturday instead of Sunday

    They have been predicting the 'imminent' Second Coming of Jesus for well over a century.
    They are Young-Earth Creationists.
    They require adherence to kosher dietary laws and recommend vegetarianism.
    They discourage alcohol, jewelry, dancing, movies, pop music, playing cards, bowling and following pro sports.
    They encourage wives to 'submit' to their husbands.
    A number of groups split off from them, most famously the Branch Davidians and David Koresh.
    Unlike the Jehovah's Witnesses, they have been smart enough to not announce specific dates for the Second Coming.
    A National Institutes of Health study in California found that the average Adventist lived 4 to 10 years longer than the average resident of the state, crediting the difference to a combination of low-fat diets, abstention from tobacco and alcohol, and the church's social network.
    They run a not-for-profit network of hospitals.
    It is one of the fastest-growing churches in the world, especially in Third World countries.
    Its members refuse to bear arms, but were willing to serve their country when drafted, so large numbers were medics during WWII.
    They approve of married couples using birth control.
    Breakfast cereals were popularized at Dr. John Kellogg's Adventist sanitarium.
