Why she might be annoying
At various times, she suffered from depression, stage fright, anorexia and a nervous breakdown and noted, 'To be secure within myself proved to be an unattainable goal.'
She was estranged from her brother Daniel for over a decade.
She was typecast as 'waspish spinsters and maiden aunts.'
She complained, 'Theater eats up too much of your family life. I have a grandson and a husband and I'd rather I was able to be a granny and a wife.'
Why she might not be annoying
One critic described her as 'one of those splendid British actresses whom one is tempted to call Dame before their time.'
She won a London Critics' Circle Theatre Award (1982), a Laurence Olivier Theatre Award (1983), A Royal Television Society Award (1986) and a BAFTA Television Award (1987).
She refused facelifts and botox, saying 'Nowadays, facelifts prevent the map of people's lives from being seen. This saddens me. It's like putting a cover on your life.'
