Why they might be annoying:

Their original drummer, Gary Young, was a forty year old ex-hippie that was addicted to drugs and was 'acid-fried.' The band fired him after constant drunk behavior on stage, which included collapsing and giving salads to audience members.
After 'Terror Twilight' was released, there was a feud between members because they thought it was Stephen's solo album, disguised as a band album.
Their breakup was originally rumoured and described as a hiatus, but they finally admitted that they were starting to break up.

Why they might not be annoying:

They are called one of the most influential, innovative and distinctive bands to head out of the underground music scene.
They are also called 'indie underground heroes.'
Along with Guided By Voices, Liz Phair, Apples in Stereo and Beck, they started the lo-fi movement in the early nineties.
Unlike Liz Phair and some other past lo-fi underground artists, they remained lo-fi for their whole career.
Their music videos are never meant to be taken serious. They do not have a storylines and added some humour and creativeness to them.
Stephen and Scott were childhood friends. The rest of the band met during their college years.
On November 20, 1999, they called fans to the London Brixton Academy to announce their breakup. They took a pair of handcuffs, hung it from the microphone stand and said it symbolized the fans being part of the band. They thanked their fans for 'coming all these years.'
