Murderer
    (circa 1954-May 9, 2007)
Convicted in 1982 of fatally shooting police officer Ronald Oliver during a botched robbery
    Executed by lethal injection
He committed armed robbery of a Wendy's in Memphis to get money for his drug habit (August 5, 1981).
He admitted to firing at and hitting Officer Aubrey Stoddard.
He also admitted to pointing his gun at Oliver.
An appeals court ruled that new evidence discovered by the defense was insufficient to grant a new trial.
Harold Davis, the only witness to testify he saw Workman shoot Oliver, retracted his testimony, claiming he had made up the story to collect a reward.
Other witnesses to the shooting have said they never saw Davis at the scene.
Two ballistics experts concluded that the bullets in Workman's gun could not have caused Oliver's wounds.
Five of the jurors from his trial signed affidavits saying they would have decided the case differently if they had seen the evidence presented during the appeals.
Oliver's daughter and the former District Attorney who prosecuted Workman asked the governor of Tennessee to grant clemency.
