Why he might be annoying:

    He is an alcoholic.
    He divorced his wife and then remarried her.
    He named his son Dick Jr.
    Dick Jr. became a porno star.
    He used his comedy show as a political vehicle to oppose U.S. involvement in Vietnam.
    CBS forced them to apologize for doing a comedy routine that mocked religion.
    He was a spokesman for Magnavox.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He fought censorship in the '60s.
    He is left handed.
    He did not mind being the straight man and letting Tommy take the spotlight.
    Despite The Smothers Brothers highly rated show, CBS didn't want to renew their show because of their anti-US administration policy. They used the excuse that the Smothers Brothers were late in submitting their show for airing, to cancel them.
