Why he might be annoying:

He claimed to have a PhD, but never actually finished getting his doctorate.
He fathered a child out of wedlock.
His economic policies during his first presidency resulted in hyperinflation, with prices increasing by more than 2,000,000% during his term of office.
His administration was accused of human rights abuses in combating the rebellions by Shining Path and the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement.
He was accused of accepting as much as $14 million in kickbacks from the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht.
He hid out in the Uruguayan embassy while unsuccessfully seeking political asylum from that country (November 17-December 3, 2018).
He fatally shot himself in the head after being presented with a warrant for his arrest on corruption charges (April 17, 2019).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was five before he met his father, who was a political prisoner.
When he was first elected president at age 36, he was called ‘Latin America’s Kennedy’ because of his youth.
He avoided the economic mistakes of his first term during his second term.
He was named ‘Leader of the Year’ by Latin Business Chronicle (2008).
