World all-round champion (2003)
Won the Olympic gold medal in the 1,5 km, silver in the 1km and Team Pursuit, and the bronze in the 3 km and 5 km in Torino (2006)

Why she might be annoying:

She refused to be the flag bearer for the Canadian Olympic team in the opening ceremony at the Torino games.
Although she began as an ice hockey player, she was not chosen for the team that competed at the Nagano games in 1998.
She has a low opinion of sports fashion, especially the skintight speed skating outfits.
She enjoys waterskiing.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was decommissioned for the entire 2003-04 season following a disastrous training session. She suffered a 4-inch laceration and 12 torn tendons in her right forearm.
When she was turned down for the Nagano games, she turned her attention to speed skating.
She is the first Canadian female, second at a winter series, and third overall, to win five career Olympic medals (and the first overall with six; confusing, isn't it?).
In fact, she became the first Canadian to win four medals in the same Olympiad (in Torino, adding a fifth for good measure).
She competed in the 1994 Commonwealth games in field lacrosse (which, at the time, was a demo sport).
She enjoys fishing and mountain biking at her cottage.
