The Resume

    (September 22, 1977-June 6, 1978)
    Credentials: Aired on NBC
    Patrick Duffy as Mark Harris
Belinda J. Montgomery as Dr. Elizabeth Merrill
Premise: A mysterious man believed to be the last survivor of Atlantis uses his abilities – including breathing underwater and super strength – to aid the Foundation for Oceanic Research

Why Man from Atlantis might be annoying:

It was cancelled after one season due to lackluster ratings and high production costs for the special effects.
Those special effects do not hold up too well on high-definition DVDs.
A number of critics suggested it might have been more successful if it had aired on Saturday mornings and been targeted directly to kids.
Duffy and Montgomery recalled that one particularly inane line (‘It’s the mud worm – and it’s heading straight towards us!’) took ten takes before they could deliver the dialogue with a straight face.
Duffy called the day the show was cancelled ‘quite literally, the best day ever’ – especially since it meant he no longer had to wear painful contact lenses or do underwater scenes in the ocean during winter.

Why Man from Atlantis might not be annoying:

It was preceded by four successful TV movies.
It became the first American TV show to be broadcast in China.
When it aired in Britain, it beat out Doctor Who in the ratings.
Duffy later wrote a novel providing his character’s backstory.
