    She was born out of wedlock.
    She is often referred as the Wayne Gretzky of women's hockey.
    She was allowed to play hockey in her neighbourhood after her mother threatened a lawsuit against the team.
    She was snubbed from the first Canadian women's Olympic ice hockey team, which drew criticism from hockey pundits (1998).
    Despite her accolades and credentials in women's hockey, she didn't receive mainstream recognition.

    She is also the first LGBT player and second player of color to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
    She is considered an ambassador for the sport of women's hockey.
