    (April 16, 1728-November 10, 1799)
    Born in Bordeaux, France
    Scottish physician and scientist
Theorized the existence of oxygen as a distinct part of the atmosphere
First to explicate the ideas of latent heat and specific heat
One of the first men in history to attain the degrees of MD and PhD
Doctoral dissertation was 'Experiments Upon Magneisa Alba, Quicklime, and Some Other Alcaline (sic) Substances'
    He was born in France.
He didn't follow up on his discoveries about heat or his idea about the existence of oxygen.
For some unknown reason, he had 'a horror of publication' and only published two papers in his life.
Failing to follow up and/or publish his ideas allowed other people to steal his ideas and get credit for them.
He was reportedly a very good and dedicated physician.
To the relief of middle-aged men and their digestive systems everywhere, he discovered bicarbonates.
    He was humble.
He, rather obviously, was a very hard worker.
He theorized the existence of oxygen a hundred years before its existence was proven.
His ideas about heat laid the groundwork for modern manufacturing.
