Why they might be annoying:

They've undergone numerous line-up changes since their incarnation, with Blackie Lawless being the only original member still in the group.
W.A.S.P. reportedly stands for 'We Are Sexual Perverts.'
The original line-up disbanded in 1989. Blackie reformed the band with a new line-up five years later.
Their stage shows featured semi-nude women in torture racks and Blackie throwing raw meat into the audience.
Capitol refused to distribute the single 'Animal (Fuck Like a Beast)' because of it's cover art (A close up of Blackie's crotch with a circular blade coming out).
They were one of the most notorious acts of the 80's, and were a huge target of Tipper Gore and the PMRC, who referred to the band as being 'sick.'
Their lyrics were profane and sexual.
    They influenced Marilyn Manson.

Why they might not be annoying:

Blackie made a brief appearance in 'This is Spinal Tap.'
Tipper Gore and PMRC's attempts to censor them were unsuccessful, and the publicity proved beneficial to the band.
They were impossible to ignore in the early-to-mid 80's.
Original member Chris Holmes rejoined the band for a brief period in the 90's.
Capitol agreed to release 'Animal (Fuck Like a Beast)' in different packaging, but at the last minute backed out. It was eventually released by Music for Nations with it's original artwork.
They were not your average 80's hard rock/metal band.
They're still recording and touring, and released the two-part 'The Neon God' in 2004, a concept album about an abused and orphaned boy who discovers an ability to read and manipulate people.
