Why they might be annoying:

Their fan club and studio are called 'The Hive.'
They sell junk to their fans, like key chains, stickers, mouse pads, etc.
Some started a rumor that they were linked to the KKK in that K is the 11th letter and thus 311 would be 3 Ks or KKK.

Why they might not be annoying:

They went to high school together in Omaha Nebraska.
They are popular in the midwest.
They independently produced their first three records.
They believed so much in themselves that they bought a house in Van Nuys California and lived together.
While promoting their new CD, their touring RV caught fire and exploded (1993).
They lost all their equipment and clothing but only canceled one show.
Their fans donated equipment and they persevered.
