Why he might be annoying:

During his first stage performance, as Hercules in a college production, he tripped and knocked over half the set, inadvertently launching himself into a career as a vaudeville comedian.
He was typecast as a wisecracking know-it-all.
During World War II, he was rejected by the Air Corps because of his height (6'2) and the Army because he had flat feet.
He was married four times, divorced three times.
He had a fling with co-star Doris Day that ended because of his drinking.

Why he might not be annoying:

During World War II, he entertained troops in the South Pacific.
He had one of the best double takes in the biz.
Although mostly used for comic relief, he gave good dramatic performances in 'Mildred Pierce' and 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.'
He has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, for radio and TV work.
He said, 'Fans are people who let an actor know he's not alone in the way he feels about himself.'
