Celebrity's Relative

The Resume

    Born in Jamaica
Peter Finch's third and final wife
Met Finch in 1965, married him in 1972
Had one child together, Diana Finch, in 1973
Accepted husband Peter Finch's Oscar, posthumously, before the Academy at the 50th Annual Ceremony (Apr. 3, 1978)

Why she might be annoying:

A DataLounge thread called her 'another Yoko Ono.'
She proudly summed up her family history as follows: 'I’m illegitimate, my mother is illegitimate, my father is illegitimate and my son is illegitimate!'
She was regularly present on the set of Finch's movies at his insistence, usually to the annoyance of the cast and crew.
She was known for being protective bordering - on possessive - of Finch, to the point of driving acquaintances of his away at social events.
Details about her later life are sparse to the point of being unavailable.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was likely the most beloved of Finch's three wives (she was the only one he didn't openly cheat on).
She was regularly mistaken for 'the maid' when she took up with Finch at their Hollywood residency.
Her husband remedied this by adorning her with mink furs and gifting her with a brand new Mercedes.
She had a son - from a previous marriage in Jamaica - whom Finch fell in love with and legally adopted (although he insisted the boy call him 'Finchie' instead of daddy).
When Peter Finch received his posthumous Academy Award nomination, Oscar show producer William Friedkin decided he didn't want a hysterical (not to mention - let's face it - black) widow at the podium and assigned the screenwriter to accept it if Finch won.
When Finch's name was announced, Paddy Chayefsky approached the podium and then declared, 'There's only one person who should be up here,' and called her by name to 'come up and get your award.'
She maintained her composure while thanking the Academy for her late husband, saying: 'I wish [Peter] was here tonight to be with us all, but since he isn't here, I'll always cherish this for him.'
