    Made up of 23 islands, Hawaii, Maui, Oahu, Kauai, Molokai, Lanai, Niihau and Kahoolawe (The other 15, known as the Leeward Islands, are small coral reefs)

Why Hawaii might be annoying:

    Explorer, James Cook, was murdered by natives in Hawaii (February 15, 1779).
    Two words - Don Ho.
    The steel guitar was invented here (1895).
    They began a movement to become a U.S. state (1898) and it took sixty-one years.
    The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, causing the U.S. to enter World War II (December 7, 1941).
    There are still active volcanos on the Islands.
    Old joke: Hawaiians ask if you want to get laid, then they put a necklace of flowers on you called a lei.
    Temperatures ranged from -12ºF (May 17, 1979) to 100ºF (April 27, 1931)
    Exxon Houston spilled 117,000 gallons of oil in Hawaii (March 2, 1989).
    Queen Kaahumanu weighed over 300 pounds.
    It is the only U.S. state that still has a royal palace.

    It is considered the most beautiful of all the states.
    During the 1970's, the state boasted the highest percentage of wives who worked for employers.
    The Hawaiian language consists of only twelve letters.
    Hawaii modelled their constitution after the U.S. and looked for a close link to the U.S.
    The NFL all star Pro Bowl was held annually at the Aloha Bowl.
    It is famous for macadamian nuts and pineapples.
    The first king to visit the U.S. was King David Kalakaua of Hawaii (February 12, 1874).
    The 1st Asian-Americans elected to Congress were from Hawaii (July 28, 1959).
    Elvis Presley recorded 'Blue Hawaii.'
    The TV series 'Hawaii 5-0,' 'Lost,' 'Magnum P.I.' and 'Hawaiian Eye' were set in Hawaii.
