    (May 15, 1926-June 6, 2016)
Born in Liverpool, England, United Kingdom
Wrote 'Five Finger Exercise' (1958), 'The Royal Hunt of the Sun' (1964), 'Black Comedy/White Lies' (1967), 'Equus' (1973), 'Amadeus' (1979) and 'Lettice and Lovage' (1987)
Wrote screenplays for the film adaptations of 'Equus' (1977) and 'Amadeus' (1984)
'Amadeus' gave a lot of moviegoers an inaccurate view of Mozart and Salieri.
Many reviews of the 2007-08 revival of 'Equus' noted that the play had not aged well.
'Equus' controversially features two teenage characters naked on stage.
He responded to comments about the nudity in 'Equus' with 'I'm not writing porn, for God's sake!'
He noted, 'Obviously, Amadeus on the stage was never intended to be a documentary biography of the composer.'
'Equus' and 'Amadeus' both won the Tony for Best Play.
He won an Oscar for the screenplay of 'Amadeus.'
The 'Equus' revival gave pervy Harry Potter fans a chance to see Daniel Radcliffe's magic wand.
