Why he might be annoying:

He claimed that he did not box for money, and then immediately followed up by saying, 'I fight because I was sick of beating people up for free' (therefore contradicting himself).
At Fifty-two he is still boxing, although he was last seen with a fat jiggly stomach and a no longer lethal left.
He 'retired' seven times.
He dominated a very weak era in boxing.
Mike Tyson absolutely humiliated him in his attempt to reclaim the title, being disposed of in four rounds.

Why he might not be annoying:

He held the World Heavyweight Championship from 1978 to 1985, the second longest title reign ever (second only to Joe Louis').
After brutally pummeling his former sparring partner and hero, Muhammad Ali, he spent the night in the hospital with him.
Although he may technically be one of the greatest boxers of all time, his lack of charisma and his circumstance of being in a weak era of fighters may make it difficult for him to get the recognition he deserves.
