    (March 20, 1895-November 29, 1981)
Came to the United States (1922)
Psychologist at John Hopkins University in New York
Attacked comic books in the books 'Seduction of the Innocent' and 'A Sign for Cain'
Also wrote 'The Brain As An Organ,' 'Dark Legend,' 'Circle of Guilt' and 'The World of Fanzines'
He believed comic books were corrupting America's youth, making them commit acts of sex and violence.
His book against comics, 'Seduction of the Innocent,' sparked congressional hearings on comic decency and nearly destroyed the comic industry (1954).
He put an end to the Golden Age of comic books.
He claimed that Batman and Robin were gay, Superman was a Nazi, and Wonder Woman was a lesbian who had a penis.
The outcry he started, made the comic industry form the Comics Code Authority, which put limits on comic artists' creativity for decades.
    Comic book fans hate him.
He advised New York City on the first psychiatric prison for felons.
At one point, he was one of the most respected psychiatric experts in the U.S.
He was deeply concerned with the effect comic book violence had on children.
He changed his mind in 1973 with his book 'The World of Fanzines,' which said that comics were good for kids and had created a new art form.
He went to the New York Comic Art Convention to promote his new book and was heckled out of the complex by comic book fans who were angry at him for the outcry he had started in 1954. Wertham never wrote anything on comic books again.
