    Jacqueline Kennedy couldn't stand him.
    He ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination of Senator from New York (1970).
    Jimmy Carter chose him to be CIA director, but his nomination was withdrawn before the Senate could vote (1977).
    He managed the disastrous 1984 Gary Hart presidential campaign
    His mother suffered from mental illness while he was growing up.
    He was #1 in his law school class.
    He advised President Kennedy on the successful and peaceful resolution of the Cuban Missile Crisis.
    The Kevin Costner character in the movie 'Thirteen Days' was based on him.
    He wrote 'Kennedy,' the first in-depth, inside look at the Kennedy presidency in 1965.
    After the Kennedy presidency, he joined a law firm in New York and cleaned up.
