    Born in Peking (Beijing), China
    Last emperor of China (1908-11)
    Wrote the autobiography 'From Emperor to Citizen' (1964)
    He had eunuchs flogged for his amusement.
    During World War II, he collaborated with the invading Japanese, serving as emperor of the puppet state of Manchukuo (1934-45).
    During a state visit to Tokyo he thanked Emperor Hirohito for providing clear skies and sunshine for the event.
    During the 1960s, he said, 'I owe more to Mao Zedong than any subject ever owed to any emperor.'
    When he became emperor at age two, he was taken from his mother and would not see her again for six years.
    He was prevented from marrying his first choice for a wife because she was not considered beautiful enough to be an empress.
    He was imprisoned by the Soviets for four years (1945-49) and by the Chinese Communists for ten years (1949-59).
    He inspired the Oscar-winning film 'The Last Emperor.'
