Why he might be annoying:

Although one of the all-time greats and a huge international star, he could never make it big in the United States.
He was a ruthless businessman and wanted to work on his own terms, which made it difficult for him to work for promoters of the bigger U.S. companies.
He worked for the WWE (then WWWF) but his tenure there ended after an argument with Vince McMahon Sr. and Gorilla Monsoon.
He had a hard time finding work in the United States.
His brutal matches caused his face and forehead to be covered with scars.
He acted like a caveman and would do things like chase the crowd during entrance and bark and swing chains and lick his hands during bloody matches.
He carried his chain everywhere he went, in and out of the ring.
Although a great football player in high school, he failed at making it in the NFL.
He was kicked out of college for chopping down an important and rare tree on the school’s campus.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a huge box office draw in the 70's and 80's and promoters everywhere wanted him because he was guaranteed to draw money.
He’s considered one of the greatest brawlers and big men in the history of wrestling.
Wrestling students would study his matches and mannerisms would be copied for years to come.
He was one of the few American wrestlers to make it big in foreign countries.
He’s in the Wrestling-Observer Hall of Fame.
In 1988, the year he died, PWI named him the recipient of the Editor’s Award, which is like a lifetime achievement award.
He was stabbed to death in the dressing room of a stadium in Puerto Rico after an altercation with another wrestler (who was later acquitted for the murder).
