Why he might be annoying:

    His character overshadowed his wrestling performance.
    He originally wrestled under his real name.
    As Johnny Walker he was unsuccessful so he ripped of Mr. Wrestling's character.
    His wrestling career failed until he was 40 and over the hill.
    Despite his wrestling talent and popularity he was never given the opportunity at the NWA Heavyweight Title.
    He turned down a White House invitation from President Jimmy Carter, because he would have to attend without his wrestling mask.

    He is one of the greatest American masked wrestlers.
    He exceeded the popularity of Mr. Wrestling.
    At age forty he rose to the top of NWA's roster.
    He was the most popular wrestler on the Georgia NWA circuit.

    He joined with Mr. Wrestling to form a successful tag team.
    He was PWI Wrestler of the Year (1975).
    He was PWI Most Popular Wrestler of the Year (1980).
    He was inducted into the WCW Hall of Fame.
