Why he might be annoying:

He has been accused of being a racist and a segregationist.
According to reporter Frank Deford, he called a predominantly black team 'coons.'
He didn't have a black player on his team until 1969.
He said, 'Gamblers couldn't get at our players with a ten-foot pole.' Five of his players were eventually caught point-shaving for gamblers.
He raised tobacco.
Jon Voight portrayed him in 'Glory Road.'

Why he might not be annoying:

Some point out that he actually was more progressive in playing and recruiting African-Americans than most other Southern schools at the time.
He won 82 percent of his games and never had a losing season.
He held the NCAA basketball record for coaching wins (876) until Dean Smith passed him.
He took drastic measures to make sure his players attended all of their classes.
He was forced to retire at 70 due to Kentucky's mandatory retirement laws at the time.
Kentucky's arena was named after him.
