    Murdered by partner/fellow Green activist Gert Bastian, who then committed suicide
    She had three major affairs with men more than twenty years her senior.
    She turned down an offer of police protection, saying that her commitment to non-violence was greater than her fear of being attacked.
    When the Greens began forming coalitions with other parties, she complained, 'That's why I've become so pessimistic. I've seen us being adaptable.'
    She so alienated her fellow Greens that it was three weeks after her death before any of them realized she was missing.
    Ironically, when asked for a newspaper survey how she wished to die, she replied, 'Not alone.'
    She spent her teen years in the United States after her mother married a US Army officer and was inspired by the 60s civil rights movement.
    She received regular death threats from German neo-Nazis.
    She adopted a daughter from Tibet (1973) and organized the first international hearing on human rights abuses in Tibet (1989).
    She received the Swedish parliament's Right Livelihood Prize, known as 'the alternative Nobel Prize.' (1982)
    The Dalai Lama said, 'Petra Kelly was a committed and dedicated person with compassionate concern for the oppressed, the weak and the persecuted in our time.'
