    Acted in ‘The Musketeers of Pig Alley (1912),' 'The Spanish Dancer (1923),' ‘The Temptress (1926),' ‘It (1927),' ‘Notorious (1946),' and 'The Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954)'
    He was often typecast as a Latin lover.
    Elinor Glyn called him 'The It Man.'
    In ‘The Temptress' he and a rival duel with whips.
    His Spanish accent made it hard for him to find roles when talkies became popular.
    He and his wife named their sprawling mansion ‘Paramour.'
    His scenes with Greta Garbo in 'The Temptress' were quite steamy for their time.
    When his acting career stalled in the 1930's, he became a successful director in Mexico.
    He directed Mexico's first sound pictures, ‘Santa' and ‘Aguiles Frente al Sol.' in 1932.
    He became a respected character actor in the forties.
    His wife died in a car crash shortly after they separated.
    His well-regarded film career lasted over forty years.
