    Best known for the poems 'Requiem' and 'Poem Without a Hero'
    Member of the Acmeist movement
    She had to publish under a pseudonym because her father didn't want a 'decadent poetess' to shame the family.
    She had an affair with a painter while on honeymoon with her husband.
    She and her first husband cheated on each other numerous times.
    Boris Pasternak proposed to her numerous times even though he was already married.
    She was dependant on her friends for support because her ration card was taken away by the government.
    She wrote poems that praised Josef Stalin and the Soviet government to try and win official favor.
    She used simple, everyday language in her poems to appeal to more people.
    Two of her husbands and many of her friends and family were executed, exiled or arrested by the Soviets.
    She gave a radio speech during the siege of Leningrad, encouraging the local women to be courageous.
    During World Wars I and II, she read her poetry to wounded soldiers to help boost morale.
    She was unable to publish much of her work because of a government ban on her poems.
    Many of her poems were dedicated to the people who suffered under Stalinism.
    She did not leave Russia during the World Wars, Revolution, or Stalinist purges, and was deeply loved and respected by the Russian people because of it.
