Why they might be annoying:

The insane father of the Wilson brothers, Murry, appointed himself manager, publicist and producer.
He caused many squabbles with their record label, Capitol.
Brian was deaf in one ear due to the beatings of his father Murry.
Murry would take out his fake eye and make his kids look at it.
Brian suffered a number of nervous breakdowns.
Brian gained lots of weight and became drug dependant, so Bruce Johnston replaced him in public.
Like the Beatles, Mike Love began to follow Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.
Dennis Wilson began paling around with Charles Manson, but left him before Manson's murder spree.
Brian and Dennis did not attend their father Murry's funeral (June 1973).
Carl was addicted to cocaine and alcohol.
The group sued Brian to take control of his $80 million fortune by claiming he was insane, the courts agreed (1990).
Brian then got more money through back royalties.
Mike Love sued Brian again claiming he co-wrote 79 songs, and Brian gave him a chunk of money as settlement.
They got into fights on stage (perhaps inspiring Oasis).

Why they might not be annoying:

They produced 8 albums in two years (1963-64).
They tried to be the U.S. answer to the Beatles.
They got involved in charities, including Saving the Rain Forest and Worldwide Hunger.
The UK music press voted them the #1 group over the Beatles (1966).
US Secretary of the Interior, James Watt, decided to ban rock music at the July 4th concert in Washington DC, saying it would bring in 'the wrong element' (April 5, 1983).
It was an indirect slap at the Beach Boys, who were scheduled to perform.
Nancy Reagan and Vice President George Bush agreed with the irate public and pressured Watt into letting the Beach Boys play.
