Biblical Character
    (circa 800 BC- )
Resided in Gath-hepher (in present-day Israel)
Spoken of in the Old Testament and Koran
Ordered by God to preach to the city of Nineveh
His story is ridiculed by most rationalists.
He disobeyed God's orders to travel to Nineveh (what a naughty prophet!).
When he later hitched a ride on a ship, God created a giant sea storm to torment him.
He was thrown into the sea by the ship's crew and swallowed by a whale sent by God.
Some Christians argue that he was eaten by a giant fish instead of a whale, as if that makes the story much more probable.
He personally believed that God should destroy Nineveh rather than save it.
He wanted to die after seeing a plant wither in the desert.
After he prayed for forgiveness, God released him from the whale.
He had to endure being vomited up by a giant sea creature.
While in the whale, he may have become best friends with Pinocchio.
He managed to convince Nineveh of God's message, thereby saving the city from the deity's wrath.
Unlike many books of the Bible, his is more narrative than preachy.
    He was God's hapless pawn.
