The Resume

    (October 24, 1925-March 14, 2013)
Born in Nhan Hoa, Viet Nam
    Birth name was Kim Trang
    Brother-in-law of Pol Pot
    Co-founder of the Khmer Rouge
Served as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Cambodia (1975-79)
Served as a liason between Khmer Rouge forces on the Cambodian-Thai border and their backers in China (1980-96)
Indicted by a UN-backed Cambodian war crimes tribunal for genocide (2009)
Died during the trial before a verdict was delivered

Why he might be annoying:

After the Khmer Rouge took power, he encouraged expatriates to return and help rebuild Cambodia.
Exiles who took him up on the offer were arrested, thrown into 're-education camps' and usually executed.
A colleague said of his paranoia, 'Anyone who had ever smoked an American cigarette was CIA. Any person with nostalgia for a café crème on the Boulevard St-Michel belonged to the French secret service. Anyone with Chinese blood was an agent of Beijing or Taiwan.'
He allegedly embezzled millions from the Khmer Rouge's illegal logging and mining operations.
He defected to the government in return for receiving a diplomatic passport and a pardon from King Norodom Sihanouk (1996).
During the decade before his war crimes indictment, he lived in an opulent villa in Phnom Penh.
He tried to pass the buck on his responsibility for the Cambodian genocide, saying that Pol Pot was 'the sole and supreme architect of the party’s line, strategy and tactics.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a history teacher before becoming a revolutionary.
His 1996 defection with 3,000 soldiers was credited as the catalyst for the disintegration of the Khmer Rouge movement.
Although the Khmer Rouge regime almost destroyed Buddhism in Cambodia, he professed to be a believer and asked to be cremated in a Buddhist ceremony.
