The Resume

    (December 7, 1934-April 3, 1979)
    Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota
    Son of photographer/director Gordon Parks
Directed ‘Superfly’ (1972), ‘Three the Hard Way’ (1973), ‘Thomasine & Bushrod’ (1974), and ‘Aaron Loves Angela’ (1975)

Why he might be annoying:

He technically was not a ‘Junior’ since he and his father had different middle names. (His was Roger, dad’s was Alexander.)
’Superfly’ was partially funded by his father.
’Superfly’ was criticized by the NAACP for glorifying drug dealing.
None of his follow-ups came close to the success of his first film.

Why he might not be annoying:

In the 60s, he performed as a guitarist and singer in Greenwich Village.
’Superfly’ was one of the first films for which a majority of the production crew was non-white,
’Superfly’ was made for less than $500,000 and grossed over $30 million.
Critic Vincent Canby called ‘Superfly’ the only blaxploitation film with any ‘original distinction.’
He died in a plane crash while shooting on location in Kenya.
