Born in Klis, Croatia
Dominican nun and Catholic saint
Niece of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary
Daughter King Bela IV of Hungary
Why she might be annoying
She was royalty.
She entered the convent when she was only four years old because her parents promised to dedicate one of their children to the religious life if they were successful in their battle against a Mongol invasion.
Despite her name, she was actually born in modern day Croatia and not Hungary.
She practiced extreme mortification that may have led to her death at the early age of twenty-eight.
Despite having no less than 74 miracles attributed to her intercession, (the Catholic Church only requires two to be canonized) including one person being raised from the dead she was not beatified until 1789 and not canonized until 1943 by Pope Pius XII.
Why she might not be annoying
Margaret Island on the Danube River in Hungary is named after her.
She resisted attempts at entering her into a political marriage.
She was the ninth of ten children.
She was born in an actual castle, the famed Klis fortress.
She was extremely humble and hard-working and one of her biographers wrote that she, '...went out of her way to perform the most menial tasks and the most exacting labors on behalf of the squalid poor and the most advanced hospital cases.'
