Vocalist

The Resume

    (November 4, 1954- )
    Born in Greenwich, United Kingdom
Main lyricist for Squeeze (lead vocals included ‘Cool for Cats,’ ‘Slap & Tickle,’ and ‘Love Circles’)
Solo albums include ‘I Didn’t Get Where I Am,’ ‘The Last Temptation of Chris,’ and ‘Pants’
    Autobiography: ‘Some Fantastic Place’

Why he might be annoying:

He claimed to have stolen 50 pounds from his mother’s purse to put up an ad for a guitarist — in the local candy shop window! (It was so detailed that it attracted only one applicant.)
In the neighborhood of his early years, his long hair stood in sharp contrast to the skinheads running the council house he lived in.
He admitted to not being particularly good with money (referring to a ‘golden-egg period’).
While he had arguably their best remembered single, there were actually only a handful of Squeeze songs on which he was lead vocal.
Ironically, the title of his autobiography was based on songwriting partner Glenn Tilbrook’s first love, who had recently died of leukemia!

Why he might not be annoying:

He admitted to having too peaceful a personality to get far among the rabble that hung out around the council estate.
As ‘Cool for Cats’ clearly proved, there is no mistaking that deep Cockney snarl (in sharp contrast to Tillbrook’s smooth tone).
While Squeeze was briefly disbanded, he continued writing songs for other artists — notably ex-bandmate Jools Holland.
He hosts songwriting retreats in prisons and rehab centers.
He had a knack for bluntly addressing sensitive topics in his lyrics.
