Please vote to return to collections (Voting Results will appear on Right Sidebar).
    (August 14, 1949- )
    Wrestled for the WWF
    Former WWF Heavyweight Champion
    He looks like Howdy Doody.
He's actually a three-time WWF Champion but his title loss to Antonio Inoki in Japan was never made official by the WWF and it was years before the North American fans ever knew about it.
He would rarely defend the title against fan favorites.
His first WWF Heavyweight Title reign ended in controversial fashion when his manager threw in the towel while Backlund was in a submission hold.
His third title reign lasted three days and he lost the title in a match that lasted 8 seconds.
When Vince McMahon Jr. took over, the company steered in a different direction that Bob didn't fit into and he later lost the title and disappeared from wrestling for 10 years.
When he came back, he didn't fit in at all with the WWF's product and was buried in the roster.
During his time as a heel in the late 90's, his promos would include words that caused people to need a dictionary to understand what he was saying.
He did a mock run for President of the United States in a wrestling angle that quickly ran its course.
He's known to make people name every U.S. President, in succession, in order to get his autograph.
He ran for Congressman of Connecticut in 2000 and was creamed in the voting.
His first title reign lasted almost six years.
He was hugely popular in the 70s and early 80's and fans flooded the ring when he won the WWF Heavyweight Title.
During his reign as WWF Champion, he defined the All-American good guy.
He spent his first year in wrestling living in his car to save money.
He holds the record for staying in the Royal Rumble the longest.
He shocked many people by how well he was able to play a psychotic heel character and going from a washed-up has-been to one of the WWF's top wrestlers.
His time at Spring Break in 1995 made for some very funny segments with him walking around in his three piece suit and bow tie while carrying a dictionary and hanging out on the beaches with college kids.
His title win over Bret Hart was a complete shock and at age of 45, he became the oldest WWF Champion ever at the time.
Although he ventured into the world of professional wrestling, he always remained true to amateur wrestling and was coach of the Central Connecticut State College wrestling team.
Although he lost by a huge margin when he ran for Congress, he managed to capture 30% of the voting, which is respectable for somebody with no previous political experience and with little press in the media.
He endorsed the Backlund Wheel, a fitness product to strengthen the abs.
