    (March 6, 1925-June 15, 1968)
    Born in Indianapolis, Indiana
Birth name was John Leslie Montgomery
    Jazz guitarist
Albums included 'The Wes Montgomery Trio' (1959), 'The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery' (1960), 'Full House' (1962), 'Guitar on the Go' (1963), 'Movin Wes' (1964), 'Bumpin' (1965), 'Smokin at the Half Note' (1965), 'A Day in the Life' (1967) and 'Road Song' (1968)
After getting a break touring with Lionel Hampton, he left the band, returned to Indiana and became a welder, only playing local clubs at night (1950).
His fear of flying limited his touring.
He was accused of selling out when he started recording string-laden covers of the Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel.
His thumb was double-jointed and, according to George Benson, 'He could bend it all the way back to touch his wrist, which he would do to shock people.'
He was the most influential jazz guitarist since Django Reinhardt.
His playing was called 'the biggest, warmest, fattest sound on record.'
He earned Down Beat's New Star award (1960).
At the height of his success, he suffered a fatal heart attack at age 43.
