Birth name was Lorenzo Romano Amadeo Carlo Avogadro
Developed Avogadro’s Law (1811): equal volumes of gases at the same temperature and pressure will contain equal numbers of molecules
Namesake for Avogadro’s constant: 6.022 x 10^23, the number of molecules of a compound (or atoms of an element) in a mole

Why he might be annoying:

He was a lawyer before developing an interest in science.
His ideas did not become widely accepted until after his death, partly because he tended to express his findings in ways that made more sense to physicists than chemists.
The actual value of Avogadro’s number was calculated by Johann Josef Loschmidt (1865).

Why he might not be annoying:

He introduced the metric system to the Piedmont region of Italy.
He determined the correct molecular formulas for many compounds, including water, ammonia, ethyl alcohol, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitric oxide and nitrous oxide.
He was one of the first scientists to realize the importance of the distinction between molecules and atoms.
Linus Pauling said that his work ‘forms the basis of the whole of theoretical chemistry’ and is ‘one of the greatest contributions to chemistry that has ever been made.’
