Coached for Cheyney University of Pennsylania (1972-83) and the Iowa University Hawkeyes (1983-95)

The media publicity surrounding the incident obscured the fact that her team had lost to Tennessee in the national championship that year.
She got into a tense exchange with Jason Whitlock at a 2007 Black Athletes Forum over an article he penned accusing her of leading Rutgers in a 'massive pity party/recruiting rally' and of seeking '15 minutes [of fame] to make the case that she’s every bit as important as Pat Summitt and Geno Auriemma.'
She successfully sued her high school to become a cheerleader after they denied her because of her race.
She has one of the best records in the history of women’s basketball.
She is the first coach in NCAA history to lead three different women’s programs to the NCAA (Rutgers: 2000 and 2007, Iowa: 1993, and Cheyney: 1982).
As of 2020, she is the sixth winningest coach in women’s basketball history.
She was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame (June 9, 2001).
She coached the United States to a gold medal in the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
She has sent over 25 players to the WNBA from Rutgers alone.
She was lauded for her handling of the Imus incident, and the Rutgers team's response led to the cancellation of his show.
