The Resume

    (August 2018- )
    Social networking/microblogging application
Geared towards a right-leaning user base
Founded by John Matze and Jared Thomso
    Headquartered in Henderson, Nevada
10 million users as of November 2020

Why Parler might be annoying:

It became an echo chamber for far-right, pro-Trump content.
Some had difficulty with the phone number verification for new accounts.
Its name was originally intended to be pronounced French - 'Par-lay' (give yourself a cookie if you get the Pirates of the Caribbean reference).
It is a 'taking my ball and going home' alternative for conservatives who feel alienated by Twitter (or who were outright banned by the platform).
It proudly brandishes the 'no fact checkers' label (translation: misinformation can be spread on the platform unchecked).

Why Parler might not be annoying:

It markets itself as a free speech social-media platform.
It allows 1,000 characters per parley (post), as opposed to the 280 in Twitter.
It was downloaded nearly 1 million times during election week, shooting to No. 1 on Apple's App Store (November 8, 2020).
It has attracted users as diverse as Ted Cruz and Dinesh D'Souza.
President Trump has yet to open an account.
It has a scarlet-purple-pink color scheme (which, you gotta admit, is way better than Twitter's bland light-blue pallet).
It does have basic community guidelines that are enforced (prohibited is anything pornographic, spam-related, or the promoting of unlawful acts/terrorism).
It was a response to the aggressive censorship by Facebook and Twitter - which some deemed a violation of free speech.
