Why he might be annoying:

He had a voice like a foghorn.
Although he denied being a Communist, he was identified as one by several actors, such as Melvyn Douglas, who claimed Stander tried to recruit him into the party.
He said about 'Hart to Hart,' 'I'm on a television program that's shown in 67 countries, helping lobotomize the world.'
He was married six times and divorced five.
He said, 'I don't hate anybody. I do despise a lot of people though.'

In the 1930s, he was reportedly the highest-paid character actor in Hollywood.
He served in the US Army Air Forces during World War II.
He was blacklisted from Hollywood over his politics.
He said about his appearance before the House Un-American Activities Committee, 'I wanted to name names: The people in Georgia who had burnt crosses in front of a Negro's house, the names of people who had ransacked Jewish cemeteries, but the Committee wasn't interested in hearing about those un-American activities.'
He won a Golden Globe for his performance in 'Hart to Hart.'
